Tour de France: le Slovaque Peter Sagan s'impose au sprint à Berne

C'est finalement le Slovaque Peter Sagan qui s'est imposé, ce lundi, à Berne, au terme de la 16e étape du Tour de France, de passage en Suisse jusqu'à mercredi. Chez lui, Fabian Cancellara n'a pas su saisir une chance unique de remporter une dernière victoire sur la Grande Boucle. Ce mardi, c'est jour de repos pour le peloton et, mercredi, les coureurs partiront de la capitale à l'assaut du barrage valaisan d'Emosson.

Fabian Cancellara n'a pas décroché le succès dont il rêvait lundi à Berne lors de la 16e étape du TdF. Présent à l'avant, le Bernois a dû se contenter de la 6e place d'un sprint réglé par Peter Sagan.

Champion du monde en titre, Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) a donc signé son troisième succès d'étape sur ce Tour de France 2016. Le Slovaque a devancé d'un boyau le Norvégien Alexander Kristoff dans le sprint d'un premier peloton comprenant quelque 40 coureurs.

 

En quête d'une huitième victoire d'étape sur la Grande Boucle pour son ultime participation, Fabian Cancellara n'a rien à se reprocher. "Spartacus" n'a été devancé que par de purs sprinters pour cette 25e arrivée d'étape du Tour de France sur sol helvétique.

Le maillot jaune Chris Froome (Sky) a passé une journée tranquille au cours d'une étape qui passait par les cantons de Neuchâtel, Fribourg et Berne. Il a lui aussi terminé au sein du premier peloton, et conserve 1'47'' d'avance sur son dauphin Bauke Mollema (NED) au général.

 

Cette étape a longtemps été animée par Tony Martin et Julien Alaphilippe, qui se sont échapés dès le 13e km et ont compté un peu plus de 5' d'avance. Les deux hommes ont été repris à 22 km de l'arrivée par le peloton, qui n'a pas non plus laissé le champ libre à Rui Costa dans les derniers kilomètres.

Mardi, les coureurs auront droit à un jour de repos à Berne. Les hostilités reprendront mercredi en Valais avec un final très attendu à Finhaut-Emosson, pour la première des quatre étapes alpestres avant l'arrivée dimanche à Paris.
