Living in Nyon: Pausing for Thought

Local heard that the pandemic period that we are now emerging from, has been nicknamed the “Grand Pause”. It’s a time when many of us have been forced to stop, take a break and put things on hold for a while.

Last Friday I was on the GoldenPass line from Montreux to Gstaad. I got to travel in one of the Belle Époque carriages and was thinking about how different periods in history are often given titles to define them: “The Golden Age”, “The Roaring Twenties” etc. The carriage was beautiful even if it was a reproduction, (the power points above the seats gave it away).

Nevertheless, it was a fabulous journey. I took the train to see “The Mirage”. This is a temporary art installation created by American artist Doug Aitken. It’s a chalet covered in mirrors both inside and out. Perched on a hill it’s in a fabulous...
