By the time this has gone to press, Nyon and the surrounding area should have held a dark sky night – “La Nuit est Belle!” event last night. The idea was to turn the lights off in urban areas in order to raise awareness about light pollution and for people to appreciate a star filled sky in all its glory. As I understand it, September 26th was chosen for its astronomical conditions: a new moon, and good observational possibilities of both Saturn and Jupiter. However, as I am typing this on Tuesday, the weather forecast doesn’t look that great. I think the clouds are due to make more of an appearance than any stars, but let’s hope I am wrong.
