Tipping it down, chucking it down, raining cats and dogs. Whatever expression you prefer, it’s fair to say it was a big deluge of rain that hit Nyon last Saturday. The Avenue Reverdil turned into a river, cars stalled in the flowing water, and lots of people had to shelter inside the La Combe shopping centre to wait for the downpour to stop. I was one of them. Having set off to do mes commissions earlier that afternoon, I had seen a few dark clouds in the sky but thought nothing of it.

40 minutes later, the heavens opened. The rain pounded down onto the glass roof and water started to seep under doors and over floors. A noisy crowd gathered near the back of the shopping centre.
