Attentat de Londres: au moins cinq morts, dont l'assaillant, et quarante blessés

Le bilan provisoire de l'attentat de Londres s'alourdit. Au moins cinq morts, dont l'assaillant, et quarante blessés sont dénombrés. La piste du terrorisme islamiste est privilégiée, même si l'attaque n'a pas été revendiquée. De François Hollande à Donald Trump, la communauté internationale réagit et dit son soutien aux Britanniques.

L'attentat a fait au moins 40 blessés.

Un an jour pour jour après les attentats de Bruxelles, Londres a été la cible mercredi d'une attaque, qui a fait au moins quatre morts, plus l'assaillant, devant le Parlement de Westminster. Les autorités britanniques privilégient la piste du terrorisme islamiste. "Je ne vais pas faire de commentaires sur l'identité de l'assaillant", a déclaré le chef de l'unité antiterroriste britannique. Il a précisé que "l'enquête avance à grands pas". Une quarantaine de personnes ont également été blessées lorsqu'un homme barbu vêtu de noir a lancé en début d'après-midi sa voiture contre la foule sur le pont de Westminster, avant de poignarder à mort un policier en essayant de pénétrer dans le Parlement.

 

 

L'assaillant a agi seul, selon les enquêteurs, et son acte n'a pas été revendiqué pour le moment. Il a ensuite été "abattu par un autre policier", selon le haut responsable.

Vent de panique

L'attaque a entraîné un vent de panique dans le centre de Londres: les passants qui s'affolent, certains se ruant dans le métro le plus proche, la police qui se déploie en masse, le Parlement qui se barricade, la première ministre Theresa May évacuée...Parmi les blessés figurent trois lycéens français en voyage scolaire, dont deux sont dans un état grave. Deux ressortissants roumains ont également été blessés, a annoncé Bucarest, ainsi que cinq touristes sud-coréens, d'après l'agence Yonhap, et un Portugais, selon le gouvernement portugais.

 

 

Pour l'heure, selon le Département fédéral des affaires étrangères (DFAE), rien n'indique que des ressortissants suisses aient été victimes de l'attaque. Vêtue de noir, Theresa May a dénoncé dans la soirée un attentat "pervers", lors d'une allocution solennelle devant sa résidence de Downing Street. "Le terroriste a choisi de frapper en plein coeur de notre capitale où les gens de toutes nationalités, religions et cultures convergent pour célébrer les valeurs de liberté, de démocratie et de liberté de parole (...) les forces du mal ne nous diviseront pas", a-t-elle lancé, après une réunion interministérielle de crise. 

Il s'agit de l'attaque la plus meurtrière au Royaume-Uni depuis les attentats-suicides revendiqués par des sympathisants d'Al-Qaïda, qui avaient fait 56 morts le 7 juillet 2005 dans les transports en commun londoniens.

Appels de Trump et Hollande

Mme May a cependant indiqué que le niveau d'alerte terroriste restait fixé à "grave", le quatrième sur une échelle de cinq, comme depuis août 2014. Les présidents français François Hollande et américain Donald Trump ont appelé Mme May. La Tour Eiffel s'est éteinte à minuit en hommage aux victimes.

 

 

La chancelière allemande Angela Merkel a exprimé son soutien à ses "amis britanniques". Les autorités suisses ont également réagi, à commencer par la présidente de la Confédération Doris Leuthard. Elle a "condamné", dans un tweet de son département "ce violent incident devant la maison du Parlement à Londres".

 

 

L'attaque est survenue le jour où la Belgique commémorait les attentats djihadistes, qui avaient fait 32 morts à Bruxelles, il y a exactement un an. Elle rappelle les attentats de Nice (France, 84 morts) et Berlin (12 morts), également en 2016, commis en lançant un véhicule contre la foule, et s'inscrit dans un contexte de risque élevé d'attentats en Europe, notamment des djihadistes de l'Etat islamique (EI).
