Federer bat Wawrinka et remporte le Masters 1000 d'Indian Wells

Le Bâlois Roger Federer s'est adjugé le Masters 1000 d'Indian Wells (USA) en battant le Vaudois Stan Wawrinka en finale (6-4 7-5). Comme lors de leur dernier affrontement, fin janvier à l'Open d'Australie, cela ne s'est pas joué à grand-chose.

Le patron s'appelle bien Roger Federer ! Le Bâlois s'est adjugé le Masters 1000 d'Indian Wells (USA) après sa victoire en finale face à Stan Wawrinka (6-4 7-5).

Comme lors de leur dernier affrontement, fin janvier à l'Open d'Australie, cela ne s'est pas joué à grand-chose. Mais comme à chaque fois depuis le début de leur rivalité, c'est Roger Federer qui a eu le dernier mot sur ce type de surface, lui qui a toujours battu son cadet en désormais quinze duels sur des courts en dur.

Sous le soleil du désert californien, Roger Federer est d'abord parvenu à chiper le premier set à 4-5 sur l'engagement de Stan Wawrinka, au cours d'un jeu durant lequel le Vaudois, coupable de ne pas avoir demandé le challenge, s'est fait "voler" un ace. Un point qui, au final, a pesé lourd dans la balance de cette manche initiale.

Frustré, le champion de l'US Open a entamé tambour battant le second set, s'emparant d'entrée du service de son adversaire. Un événement en soi, sachant que Roger Federer avait remporté ses 42 premiers jeux de service de la semaine à Indian Wells. Las pour le joueur de Saint-Barthélemy, il n'est pas parvenu à tenir longtemps cet avantage, le Bâlois recollant déjà à 2-2.

Puis, alors qu'un tie-break semblait inévitable pour sceller cette seconde manche, Roger Federer en a décidé autrement en bouclant l'affaire à 5-6 sur le service de Stan Wawrinka, lâché par sa première balle au plus mauvais moment. Profitant de l'aubaine, le Bâlois l'a agressé sur ses deuxièmes services pour s'offrir une première balle de match, avant de la convertir au filet sur le point suivant.

Longue d'une heure et vingt minutes, cette finale a été plaisante à suivre, mais sans atteindre les sommets. Les spectateurs d'Indian Wells ont eu toutefois largement de quoi se régaler.
