There is a thin red line in arrivals at Geneva airport that delineates the space for those who are waiting landside from the passengers who are coming from the airside. It keeps the area clear and leaves a free flow for everyone who emerges through the doors. This red line is luminous, it’s on the ground and there is no actual physical barrier. It’s amazing how most people respect this line and do not cross it.

Years ago there was a British TV programme called «Candid Camera» in which cameras were hidden in public areas and set up to catch people doing unusual things. I remember one episode where a notice had been pinned to the gate of a park that said, «Please wipe your feet before entering».
