Living in Nyon: Flamenco in the morning, fatigued in the afternoon

It seemed completely crazy to set my alarm for 04:40 last Tuesday morning (on the day of my birthday too!) to catch a train to Geneva to see a lakeside dawn concert. This concert was one in a series of free concerts that start at 06:00 and take place at the Bains des Paquis throughout the month of August. They are perfect “pour voir l’aube se lever sur le lac”.

As the sun rose behind the Alps and the lake’s water took on a warm glow, myself (and a few hundred others) heard some wonderful flamenco and saw fabulous footwork by two dancers who accompanied the music. There were people swimming and diving into the lake and fishermen casting out their nets in the distance as the music drifted by. It was quite magical.

A friend of mine commented – Who says Switzerland is boring? Indeed.

With a fresh orange...
